The people behind the shelf

Our Team

A small, deliberate team keeps the Chronicles & Curios Society running — the reading, the floor, the design and the office.

Laverne K. Wightman, Founder & Chair of the Chronicles & Curios Society Book Club

Founder & Chair

Laverne K. Wightman

Founder · chairs every plenary

Laverne founded the Chronicles & Curios Society on a single conviction: reading is a professional discipline, and a book club should hold itself to the standard of one.

She sets the monthly selection with the reading committee, chairs the closing plenary and writes the editorial notes that open each cycle.

Quillora, Personal Assistant to the Founder of the Chronicles & Curios Society Book Club

Personal Assistant to the Founder

Quillora

Office of the Founder

Quillora manages the office of the founder: the calendar, the residency invitations, partnership correspondence and the practical machinery that keeps a collective of hundreds running on time.

Press enquiries, scheduling with Laverne, and anything requiring the founder's attention should be routed here first.

Clara Whitmore, Book Club Moderator of the Chronicles & Curios Society Book Club

Book Club Moderator

Clara Whitmore

Moderates the members' floor

Clara runs the members' floor. She opens each week's discussion thread, keeps the reading on schedule and makes sure every argument is anchored to an actual passage rather than a vibe.

She also chairs author residencies, prepares the discussion questions attached to each weekly chapter range, and welcomes every new member personally. If you need a question answered about a reading, a session or how a discussion is run, Clara is the right desk.

Lerato Mokoena, Creative Design Assist — Design Lead of the Chronicles & Curios Society Book Club

Creative Design Assist — Design Lead

Lerato Mokoena

With the Society for several years

Lerato leads creative design across everything the Society publishes — the monthly selection plates, the cover treatments, the event artwork and the visual identity that holds the whole collection together.

Having worked with the club for several years, Lerato is the reason a Chronicles & Curios page looks like a curated exhibition rather than a reading list. All design, branding and artwork requests go through this desk.
